The Gorva M45 is a small portrait enclosure, and the number in its name is the short axis of the rim in millimetres, as it is on every Gorva casting. On the outside it sits between a 1590A and a 1590B.

It has no corner screw bosses, so the whole cavity is available to a board where a Hammond gives up a corner at each end. That buys it far more usable width than a 1590A, though a 1590B is still the roomier enclosure inside.

How thick are the walls?

The M45's walls are 2.3 mm thick. Like every diecast enclosure it also carries a casting draft: each wall leans out by 1.2 mm from the drilled face to the open rim, so the enclosure measures 45 × 100 mm at the rim and 42.7 × 97.7 mm across the face you drill. Worth knowing when a part seats against the inside of a wall, and why a caliper reading depends on where you take it.

What fits inside?

The internal cavity measures 38.2 × 93.2 mm at the face, and there are no corner screw bosses to work around, so the whole of it is usable flat area for a circuit board: 38.2 × 93.2 mm. M45 vs 1590A

The 1590A is 5.6 mm narrower, 6.5 mm shorter and 8 mm shallower than the M45. The M45 is the one to reach for when a 1590A layout will not clear the corner bosses: a little larger outside, and considerably more usable width inside.

M45 vs 1590B

The 1590B is 16.6 mm wider, 13.5 mm taller and 8 mm shallower than the M45. Smaller outside than a 1590B and 8 mm deeper, but not roomier: even after the 1590B loses its corners to the bosses it has the wider usable face. Pick the M45 when the footprint matters more than the area.
