The Hammond 1590B is the classic compact pedal enclosure, the size most people picture when they think of an MXR-style pedal. It takes a standard single-effect build: three knobs across the top, a footswitch, an LED and side-mounted jacks.

Its one real constraint is depth. At 27 mm deep there is not much height over the board, so tall electrolytic capacitors and top-mounted jacks can get tight. The 1590BS is all but the same footprint with 11 mm more depth, and the 125B is the slightly bigger all-rounder.

How thick are the walls?

The 1590B's walls are 2 mm thick. Like every diecast enclosure it also carries a casting draft: each wall leans out by 0.6 mm from the drilled face to the open rim, so the enclosure measures 60.5 × 112.4 mm at the rim and 59.3 × 111.2 mm across the face you drill. Worth knowing when a part seats against the inside of a wall, and why a caliper reading depends on where you take it.

What fits inside?

The internal cavity measures 55.3 × 107.2 mm at the face, and the screw bosses in each corner reduce the usable flat area for a circuit board to about 47.3 × 99.2 mm. 1590B vs 125B

The 125B is 4.3 mm wider, 8.1 mm taller and 8.8 mm deeper than the 1590B. The 125B is the safer default for a first build: the extra depth leaves room for tall components and the wider face makes wiring easier. Pick the 1590B when you want the more compact pedal and you know your parts fit.

1590B vs 1590BS

The 1590BS is 0.7 mm narrower, 1.1 mm shorter and 11 mm deeper than the 1590B. The faces are within a millimetre of each other, so a drill layout usually carries over; the BS just gives your components more headroom.

1590B vs 1590BB

The 1590BB is 57.6 mm wider, 19.8 mm shorter and 3 mm deeper than the 1590B. The names are close but the sizes are not: the 1590BB is a wide, landscape format with about three-quarters more usable area.

Hammond vs the Tayda 1590B

Tayda's 1590B-style enclosure is its own casting, not a relabelled Hammond, and we measure both. Across the drilled face it runs −0.3 mm in width and +0.1 mm in height against the Hammond, with 2.1 mm walls (Hammond: 2 mm) and 27 mm of depth (Hammond: 27 mm). A drill layout made for one fits the other for ordinary builds; re-check tight clearances near the walls and corners. Both castings are in the comparison tool if you want them drawn to scale.
