The Hammond 1590BB is the standard wide pedal enclosure. Unlike the portrait formats it is landscape, wider than it is tall, with about three-quarters more usable area than a 1590B. That is the room a dual-footswitch build, a stereo effect or a knob-heavy circuit needs.

Watch the depth: at 30 mm it is closer to a 1590B than to a 125B, so a crowded 1590BB build with tall components may actually want the deeper 1590BB2 or 1590BBS.

How thick are the walls?

The 1590BB's walls are 2.3 mm thick. Like every diecast enclosure it also carries a casting draft: each wall leans out by 1.3 mm from the drilled face to the open rim, so the enclosure measures 119.5 × 94 mm at the rim and 116.9 × 91.4 mm across the face you drill. Worth knowing when a part seats against the inside of a wall, and why a caliper reading depends on where you take it.

What fits inside?

The internal cavity measures 112.4 × 86.9 mm at the face, and the screw bosses in each corner reduce the usable flat area for a circuit board to about 104.4 × 78.9 mm. To check a specific board, put its dimensions into the enclosure comparison tool's fit checker, or place the whole layout in the editor, which knows each component's real footprint and warns when something clashes with a wall or a boss.

1590BB vs 1590B

The 1590B is 57.6 mm narrower, 19.8 mm taller and 3 mm shallower than the 1590BB. They are different classes of enclosure despite the names: single-footswitch builds in the 1590B, wide or dual-footswitch builds in the 1590BB.

1590BB vs 1590BB2

The 1590BB2 is 1.2 mm wider, 1.2 mm taller and 3.8 mm deeper than the 1590BB. The faces are within about a millimetre of each other, so a drill layout usually carries over. The BB2 is the one to reach for only when 30 mm of depth will not clear the tallest part in the build.

The 1590BBS is 0.9 mm wider, 0.9 mm taller and 8.1 mm deeper than the 1590BB. Same footprint again, with 8 mm more depth. The standard 1590BB is easier to source and sits lower on the pedalboard, so move up to the BBS when a part genuinely does not fit rather than as insurance.
