The Hammond 1590P1 is a large portrait enclosure and one of the deepest here at over 46 mm. The tall face takes several rows of controls, and the depth handles transformers, relays and stacked boards that flat pedal formats cannot. It keeps the standard four-screw lid, and its walls are among the thickest here at 2.5 mm.

How thick are the walls?

The 1590P1's walls are 2.5 mm thick. Like every diecast enclosure it also carries a casting draft: each wall leans out by 1.2 mm from the drilled face to the open rim, so the enclosure measures 83 × 153 mm at the rim and 80.6 × 150.6 mm across the face you drill. Worth knowing when a part seats against the inside of a wall, and why a caliper reading depends on where you take it.

What fits inside?

The internal cavity measures 75.6 × 145.6 mm at the face, and the screw bosses in each corner reduce the usable flat area for a circuit board to about 66 × 136 mm.
